Indiana and Taiwan share a vibrant history that dates back to 1972. During the course of this long history, Indianapolis and Taipei have formed a Sister City Partnership Committee. Through this partnership, Taipei and Indianapolis have promoted understanding and cooperation between their citizens as well as a growing number of political, educational, and business affiliations. Those affiliations have been quite fruitful. Taiwan was recently ranked as the world's 15th-largest trading nation and the United States'8th-largest trading partner. Indiana's exports to Taiwan totaled an impressive US$99.24 million in 2004, which represents an increase of 13.4 percent over the 2003 figures. Indiana's top exports to Taiwan are, by order of rank, chemical products, computers and electronic products, machinery, miscellaneous manufactures, processed foods, and wood products.
